About Apple Warranty

Every Apple product — iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods — ships with a 1-year limited warranty (2 years in the EU under consumer protection law). AppleCare+ extends iPhone and Apple Watch to 2 years; Mac, iPad, and AirPods to 2 or 3 years depending on the plan. AppleCare+ can be purchased up to 60 days after the device purchase.

What Apple Warranty Covers

Apple's 1-year limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship. It does not cover accidental damage, liquid damage beyond rated water resistance, theft, or loss. Battery defects that cause capacity to drop below 80% within the warranty period are typically covered. AppleCare+ adds 2 incidents of accidental damage coverage per 12 months, subject to service fees.

How to Find Your Apple Serial Number

On iPhone and iPad: go to Settings > General > About. On Mac: go to Apple menu > About This Mac. On Apple Watch: Settings > General > About. The serial number is also printed on the original box and, on most devices, on the back of the unit itself.

Typical Apple Warranty Duration

All Apple products: 1 year standard. With AppleCare+: 2 years for iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods, and iPad; 3 years for Mac. AppleCare+ is also available as a monthly subscription that continues until cancelled.

When Your Apple Warranty Expires

After Apple warranty expiry, repairs are available through any Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider at standard out-of-warranty rates. Third-party warranty providers can cover Apple devices as an alternative to AppleCare+, though Apple only installs genuine parts at its own service locations.

How long does Apple warranty last?

All Apple products include a 1-year limited warranty. AppleCare+ extends iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods to 2 years. AppleCare+ for Mac covers 3 years. In the EU, Apple devices carry a 2-year legal warranty regardless of AppleCare+ purchase.

What does AppleCare+ cover that the standard warranty doesn't?

AppleCare+ adds accidental damage coverage (up to 2 incidents per 12 months subject to service fees), extended duration, and 24/7 priority access to Apple Support. The standard warranty only covers manufacturing defects and provides 90 days of phone support.

How do I buy AppleCare+?

AppleCare+ can be purchased within 60 days of the original device purchase. Buy it through the Apple Store app, apple.com, at an Apple Store in person, or by calling Apple Support. For iPhone, it can also be added as a monthly subscription.

Can Apple repair my device if the warranty has expired?

Yes. Apple offers out-of-warranty repair service through Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers. Repairs use genuine Apple parts. Costs vary by device and repair type — out-of-warranty pricing is published on Apple's support site.
